August started on a farm. Our team operates a pumpkin patch and haunted attraction in Nevada, and we built August because back office work kept getting in the way of what really matters: our guests and our team.
Our story
Every fall, our farm goes from a small year-round team to a big seasonal crew almost overnight. Hiring, onboarding paperwork, scheduling, group texts and timecards were spread across paper, spreadsheets and a handful of apps that didn't talk to each other. Every hour spent on paperwork was an hour not spent on the experience our guests came for.
We looked for software that understood seasonal work. Most HR tools were built for year-round office teams, priced per employee per month whether they worked or not, and too complicated for a 17-year-old to use on their phone. So we built our own.
That tool became August. Today, farms, haunted attractions, festivals and attractions across the country use August to hire, onboard, schedule, track hours and stay in touch with their seasonal teams.
What we believe
- Seasonal work deserves its own tools. A short, intense season brings unique problems and needs not solved by mainstream HR programs.
- Pricing should follow your season. That's why you pay when you have the most going on, and quiet months cost little or nothing extra.
- Applicants and employees live on their phones, so applying, onboarding, checking schedules and chatting with the team should all happen there too.
- Customers shape the product. Many of our best features started as a text from a customer.
